Science Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time in Chorlton-cum-Hardy

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Science Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This full-time position starts in December and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role depending on performance. The salary for this role is £419.25 - £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As a Science Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the science department, supporting students and teachers in delivering high-quality science lessons. This role is ideal for recent science graduates who are passionate about education and considering a future in teaching or educational support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Support: Assist the teacher in delivering engaging and effective science lessons across all key stages, helping students understand complex scientific concepts.
  • 1:1 and Small Group Support: Provide targeted assistance to students who require extra help, both in one-to-one sessions and in small groups. This may include supporting students with topics in biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Lesson Preparation: Help prepare lesson materials and resources, contributing to the development of interactive experiments and demonstrations that make learning science fun and accessible.
  • Practical Science Work: Assist in setting up and conducting practical science lessons, ensuring that all health and safety guidelines are followed.
  • Progress Monitoring: Help track student progress and provide feedback to teachers on student achievements, highlighting areas where further support may be required.
  • Behaviour Management: Work with the classroom teacher to maintain a positive learning environment by managing student behaviour and encouraging active participation.
  • Mentoring and Motivation: Act as a positive role model for students, helping to inspire their interest in science and encouraging them to achieve their best.
  • Homework and Assessment: Support students with science homework and assist with marking and assessment tasks, providing constructive feedback to help students improve.
  • Safeguarding: Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Science Graduate: A degree in a science-related field (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) is essential.
  • Passion for Science and Education: A strong interest in helping students understand and enjoy science, with a desire to support their academic development.
  • Effective Communicator: The ability to explain complex scientific ideas in an approachable and clear manner, particularly for students who may need extra support.
  • Supportive and Approachable: Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude when working with students, particularly those who may struggle with scientific concepts.
  • Team Player: The ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and other support assistants to provide the best learning environment for students.
  • Organised and Proactive: Strong organisational skills and the ability to take initiative when preparing lesson materials or assisting with lesson planning.
Position Details:
  • Start Date: December
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week (depending on experience)
  • Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with the chance of becoming permanent based on performance.
