Deputy Ward Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate for a Deputy Ward Manager on ward 2 . This position is for a Band 6 at hours per week.

The individual should have extensive oncology experience. Be able to demonstrate good leadership skills. The candidate must have oncology and a mentorship qualification. You would also be required to carry out extended clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 Deputy ward manager on the ward, you must be able to take charge of the ward, support junior members of the team and demonstrate leadership skills within the clinical environment. Using advanced skills and oncology knowledge, be able to work alongside and in place of the Ward Manager when required, ensuring safety of our patients and that a high level of care is delivered and maintained.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust provides highly-specialist cancer care for a population of million people across Cheshire & Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man and parts of Lancashire.

In June 2020, we opened Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Liverpool, our spectacular new cancer hospital in the heart of Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter, providing state-of-the-art facilities as part of a £162m investment. Alongside our flagship hospital in Liverpool, we also have two other main cancer centres:

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Wirral, providing outpatient cancer treatment and supportive care on the Clatterbridge Health Campus in Bebington, Wirral Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Aintree, our radiotherapy treatment centre on the Aintree University Hospital site

Together, working across three sites and operating specialist chemotherapy clinics in four of Merseyside's district hospitals, we deliver a comprehensive range of inpatient care, advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other systemic anti-cancer therapies including gene therapies and immunotherapies.

We also deliver a pioneering Treatment at Home and Work service, are the only facility in the UK providing low-energy proton beam therapy to treat rare eye cancers, and host the region's Teenage and Young Adult Unit.

Working with leading experts from the University of Liverpool, we strive to stay at the forefront of novel treatments.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsibility to ensure all nursing care is carried out as determined by the care plans. Responsibility to ensure care plans are regularly updated reflecting evidence based practice. Responsibility to provide accurate information to patients and relatives regarding treatment and side effects. Responsibility to ensure that all patient information is collected and recorded accurately and timely during a span of duty. Responsibility to provide accurate reports both verbally and electronically. Responsibility to ensure compliance with agreed nursing policies, procedures and protocols within the ward. Responsibility for the safe custody and administration of drugs and blood products according to CCC policy. Responsibility to administer systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT). Responsibility to ensure that all radiation guidelines are adhered to. Responsibility to ensure that agreed SACTs policies and guidelines are adhered to. Responsible for safely assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care. The safe administration of treatments to patients who require outpatient SACT and supportive therapies To work autonomously and seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries. The post holder will supervise junior staff and participate in the teaching and assessing of pre and post registration students Leadership & Management This post holder will provide clinical leadership to support the delivery of evidence based patient centred care Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others They will take responsibility for the Quality Management of their designated areas with a specific emphasis on Infection Control, Leading a Nurse Led Service and Patient Safety. Manage local resolution of patient concerns and complaints Escalate risk/issues and effectively action to minimise future risks Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

1st level Nurse (RGN) with UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) BSc. Nursing, Health or management related studies or above or equivalent, or evidence of ability to work at that level Evidence of consistent professional and educational development ENB998 or equivalent teaching/mentorship course

Knowledge of Word and Excel Recognised Management Qualification or relevant management experience
