Job summary

The post joins our well-established cardiorespiratory team as inpatient Physiotherapy Technical Instructor, working as an autonomous practitioner with regular supervision from a qualified therapist. The post holder undertakes independent patient assessment and assists physiotherapists in providing a high standard therapy service to inpatients with cardiorespiratory conditions at St George's University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder carries their own caseload of patients within a defined clinical area, which may include complex conditions, as delegated by the physiotherapist.

They will assess and treat own workload of patients and maintain associated patient records utilising knowledge and skills gained through attainment of competencies, experience and / or relevant qualifications

They are required to carry out clinical tasks (such as instruction / supervision and prescription of individual and group exercise programmes) delegated by qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skills.

This is a lead role with line management responsibilities for Band 3's within the Team and is responsible for the supervision and training of students, rotational staff and other therapy assistants.

The post holder works alongside physiotherapists to facilitate safe and effective rehabilitation programmes, to educate and encourage patients to maximise their rehabilitation potential and promote self-management using motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive behaviour change in the client group.

The post holder is integral to patient flow through the hospital and ensuring timely discharge by ordering and monitoring of equipment maintenance and the environment, as well as supporting the team with administrative support vital for timely patients discharge, such as completing onward referrals to health and social care partners.

GCSE or equivalent qualification in English and mathematics at grade C or above

Desirable
