Job summary

The post holder willprovide general medical services, dealing with a wide rangeof health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards ofcare for all registered and temporary patients.

We are looking for a permanent Salaried GP at our Whitstable Health Centre site with a view to partnership. This will for 6 sessions a week working over 4 days. The work pattern will be Monday 2 sessions, Wednesday 1 session, Thursday 1 session and Friday 2 sessions . The successful candidate will need to be available from September 2024.

This GMS role is list bearing and clinically focused with support from paramedic home visiting service, frailtypractitioners, clinical pharmacists team, advanced nurse practitioners, social prescribers, data entry and prescribing team.

Main duties of the job

Tosupport the partners, to manage a busy and interesting clinical caseload. The appointee will also have the opportunity to develop specialist interests, to take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment,staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcareservices for a diverse, patient list (in-house clinical services, patient participationand health promotion). This is a GMS Practice.

There are 26 equity partnersand 6 salaried GPs looking after over 43,500 patients. There are also 22 Allied Health Professionalsdirectly employed Clinical Pharmacy Team, Frailty Practitioners, SocialPrescribers, First Contact Physiotherapists, Podiatrist and Mental HealthPractitioners.

We are a training practice and runvarious in house contracts including Cataract surgery, Ultrasound, Dermatology,Physical Therapies and Audiology together with further community contracts, aDay Surgery Suite and an Urgent Treatment Centre with digital x-ray.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinicalresponsibilities:

In accordance to the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient medical reports and examinations ( Insurance Companies) on behalf of the Practice, referral letters (NHS and private), paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner; Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation; Recording clear and contemporaneous computer based consultation notes to agreed standards; Collecting data for audit purposes; Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible); Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines; In general the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilitieswith the Practice:

Teaching and training of doctors and nurses; Awareness of compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, eg prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, CQC and annual QOF assessment of the Practice; A commitment to life long learning and audit to ensure evidence based best practice; Keep a portfolio; Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation; Contributing to the development of computer based patient records; Attending training, Practice Meetings and events organised by the Practice or other agencies where appropriate; Meet all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (eg Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc).

Alert other team members to issues of Clinical Governance issues, quality and risk; participate in Significant Event Analysis reviews; Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision; Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance; Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs; Effectively manage own time, workload and resources. He/she will also contribute to the overall team working of the Practice putting the needs of the Practice first.

Thepost-holder will:

Apply practice policies, standards and guidance; Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work; Participate in audit where appropriate; Work with the Partners and Management Team to achieve standards of quality, performance standards, budgets and targets without compromising levels of patient healthcare. Contribute towards the development and implementation of new standards, policies and procedures that are/will be required of GP Practices now and in the future (as directed by NHS/NHS England/SHA/CCG, new legislation etc).

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work with limited supervision. Willingness to contribute to and participate in a peer support group. Good IT skills and familiarity with primary care clinical systems. Ability to handle a busy and varied patient list.

Desirable

Understanding of the pressures faced by GPs and healthcare teams. Ability to offer support within a clinical team and share learning points.
