An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone like you to join our service as a Principal clinical/counselling psychologist. This is a key role in the continuing development of psychological therapies within the integrated North & West Oxfordshire Adult Mental Health Teams (AMHTs).
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical/counselling psychologist wanting to make a difference to patients with long term mental health problems. We would really like to hear from you if you can demonstrate you have the following skills required for this role:
Experience of leadership and management of therapy staff
Significant knowledge in your specialist therapy area
A good working knowledge of effective treatments
Sound clinical risk assessment and management
Experience of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
Substantive experience of supervision with other psychological therapists.

Job responsibilities
You will work together with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist & Locality Lead to ensure we provide the best psychological therapy care for our patients. You will help develop and make improvements to our service especially in the North & West Oxfordshire locality.
You will be a key member of staff, supporting other psychological therapy staff working in the locality. You will be working as part of a supportive and friendly adult mental health teams in North & West Oxfordshire, helping their staff work in a more informed psychological way, by providing advice for the care of their patients and how psychological therapy can help.
This is a part time vacancy hours per week, alternative arrangements can be discussed for the suitable candidate.

Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
Essential
Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996, as accredited by the British Psychological Society, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. HCPC registration as appropriate Full accreditation with relevant bodies Ability to travel between bases as required
Desirable
Pre-qualification training and qualifications or experience in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology. Qualifications / training in clinical supervision - This sounds more relevant to clinical supervision.
Experience
Essential
Extensive experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, day services and in patient settings. Experience of supervising others. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse. Experience of working with people with severe and/or complex mental health difficulties. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts Experience of running / co-running groups
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis. Evidence of continuing professional development as required by professional and accrediting bodies. Good organisational and time management skills, ability to plan and prioritise own workload Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Ability to identify provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour Ability to develop and use complex and multimedia materials for presentation and public, professional and academic settings
Desirable
