Main duties of the job

Weare seeking Trustees to support and enhance the skill set of our current Boardof Trustees and help drive our strategy forward.

Therole of Trustee is vital to maintain the integrity of the hospice and hold theexecutive team accountable for ensuring the sustainability of the organisation.Trustees are responsible for charity governance and identified as non-executivedirectors.

EachTrustee is expected to annually attend 4 Board meetings and participate/lead asub-committee of the Board, which will have delegated authority to makedecisions in specific subject areas, Clinical, finance, fundraising,trading and people.

Weare inviting applications particularly from those with a background in retailbut will warmly welcome applications from those offering other skills andexperience. They also ensure that Teesside Hospice has a clear strategy and thatour work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, theysupport and challenge the executive team to enable Teesside Hospice to grow andthrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Boardmembers have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always actas a group and not as individuals.

Duties:

Support and provide advice on Teesside Hospices purpose, vision, goals andactivities.

Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluatetheir implementation.

Oversee Teesside Hospices financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluateprogress.

Ensure the effective and efficient administration of theorganisation.

Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored andcontrolled effectively.

Review and approve Teesside Hospices financial statements.

Provide support and challenge to Teesside Hospices CEO in the exercise of theirdelegated authority and affairs.

Keep abreast of changes in Teesside Hospices operating environment.

Contribute to regular reviews of Teesside Hospices own governance.

Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute todiscussions.

Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith topromote and protect Teesside Hospices interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/orany third party interests.

Contribute to the broader promotion of Teesside Hospices objects, aims and reputation byapplying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

To play an active role in one of the Boards five subcommittees Clinical Governance, Finance &Facilities, Workforce Development, Fundraising and Retail.

Terms of appointment

Terms of office

Trustees are appointed for a four-year term of office, renewalfor one further terms to a maximum of eight years.

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will bereimbursed.

Time commitment (Estimated at one day per month)

Attending four Board meetings annually. Currently meetings areheld on Thursday mornings in person at the hospice during the working hours of9am-5pm.

Annual one to one meeting with the CEO with flexibility torespond swiftly to the occasional ad hoc issue.
