Sutton, United Kingdom The Institute of Cancer Research Full time
Ultrasound imaging has wide application in the field of cancer care. One strength is its ability to perform real-time three-dimensional imaging, which enables volumetric tissue localisation and tracking essential for guiding physical therapies such as radiotherapy, ultrasound ablation, RF ablation, and surgery. For the research program “Adaptive Data-driven Radiation Oncology” funded by CRUK we are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Training Fellow who is passionate about imaging, ultrasound and developing novel technologies to improve the way we treat cancer.

As part of the Harris “Imaging for Radiotherapy Adaptation” group, and in collaboration with the Bamber “Ultrasound and Optical Imaging” and Oelfke "Radiotherapy Physics Modelling" groups, you will lead the development of innovative new plane-wave and other techniques to maximise the value of 4D imaging sequences for the purpose of image guidance of radiotherapy. These developments will exploit the flexibility and channel data accessibility of the Verasonics Vantage research platform coupled with cutting-edge 2D ultrasound probe technology (2D matrix arrays, row-column arrays) to devise tailored solutions to solve real-world problems in therapy guidance using ultrasound.

For general information on Post Doc's at The ICR can be found here.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate must have the following:

a recent Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Physics, Ultrasound or a related field. Strong background in medical imaging, signal processing, and image analysis. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar. GPU programming is a plus. Excellent problem-solving skills. The ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic research environment. A passion for productive contributions to advancing technology and scientific knowledge.

The ICR has a workforce agreement stating that Postdoctoral Training Fellows can only be employed for up to 7 years as PDTF at the ICR, providing total postdoctoral experience (including previous employment at this level elsewhere) does not exceed 10 years
