Job summary

The principal role of the post holder will be to support service users to establish greater control over their lives and their decisions, during their care and treatment whilst in Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) mental health and learning disability services.

The post holder will have direct contact with service users mainly on a one to one basis but at times in group settings. They will support service users, their carer's and supporters to identify aspects of life that give meaning, hope, value and purpose whilst recognising that each individual's recovery is a distinctive and deeply personal process.

They will support staff to identify, understand and respect aspects of life that give meaning, hope, value and purpose to service users, creating an awareness in staff of the key role that service user's experience, may play in their identity and how it influences the way they cope with their current problems.

A key feature of the post will be to promote visible recovery by drawing on their own unique lived experience of recovery as a service user or carer, and how the wisdom that comes with this can support others on their personal journey.

Main duties of the job

Secondment opportunity- 7 months- covering MAT leave.

At LSCft we are developing our Peer Workforce to strengthen our lived experience expertise in our delivery of person centered care. We're serious about enabling career opportunities for our Peer Workforce by recruiting to a Senior Peer Facilitator who will join our recovery-focused Community Roots service on a fixed term secondment opportunity.

If you have the relevant experience of working in a peer role and have accessed mental health services as a patient or carer, this may be the next step in developing your peer career with LSCft.

Working as part of a multi-professional team, you will offer mentorship support across a locality, to the Peer Facilitators employed in our inpatient services, whilst supporting our workforce and service users in their personal recovery journeys.

This role is offered as a fixed term secondment to cover maternity leave and offers Peer Facilitators the opportunity to train and experience as a Senior Peer Facilitator.
