Who We Are

Celtic English Academy, established in 2004, is a friendly and welcoming British Council and IALC accredited English Language Teaching (ELT) centre in the heart of Cardiff. We take pride in our small class sizes, great teachers and wonderful support staff.

We offer a range of beginner to advanced level English language courses for international students including, but not limited to; General English, IELTS Exam Preparation, Cambridge Exam Preparation, Teacher Development Courses, One-to-One lessons for adult students, and bespoke packaged programmes for both adult and young learners.

Each year approximately 1300 adult and young learner students study with us from up to 50 different nationalities. For young learners we also offer a Junior Summer Programme in Monmouth (Wales). We teach 150 - 350 students at any one time and our students are accommodated in local homestays or
private student residence accommodation.

We strive to foster a friendly, motivating and student-focused environment where we can offer a great service to all that study with us. We work as a team to support our students to meet their goals; whether they are learning English to go to university, for their career or to simply communicate more easily in our globalised world – we teach English today, so they can start their tomorrow.

Celtic English Academy, established in 2004, is a friendly and welcoming British Council accredited English language school in the centre of Cardiff. We take pride in our small class sizes, great teachers and wonderful support staff. For the past 20 years we have been offering a range of classes to both adults and younger learners. 

Due to the success of our 2023 Junior Summer Programme in Monmouth, we will be running the programme once again in 2024. Situated in the charming border market town of Monmouth within the historical county of Monmouthshire, the Haberdashers Monmouth School is hosting our 2024 Junior Summer Programme. 

The aim of the Junior Summer Programme is to provide:

  • English language lessons every weekday morning to students aged 11-17. 
  • Teachers with full lesson plans and materials specifically designed to fit the needs of our students. 
  • A communicative approach in lessons and integrate general English, British culture, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 
  • A maximum class size of 15 students 
  • The opportunity for students to participate in afternoon and evening activities such as sports and arts & crafts. 
  • Two mid-week half-day excursion and one full-day excursion at the weekend 

This position presents an exceptional opportunity to teach young learners from all over the world in a single classroom. JSP Teachers will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and delivering approximately 15 hours of engaging English lessons a week
  • Improving the communicative competence of the younger learners
  • Attending training sessions and meetings
  • Completing reports and certificates
  • Assisting with some boarding duties
  • Assisting with and leading a minimum of 20 hours social activities per week
  • Welcoming new students on arrival day.

Pre-programme Induction: online TBC (Paid) 

Induction onsite in Monmouth: Friday 5th & Saturday 6th July (Paid) 

Start date: Friday 5th July for between 4 and 6 weeks

Qualifications

Education/training/qualifications (Essential)

- TEFL I Status - Undergraduate Degree and Certificate - ELT/ TESOL qualification e.g. CELTA/ Trinity Cert TESOL)

- Safeguarding Children Level 1 Certificate or willingness to work towards one

Education/training/qualifications (Desirable)

- First Aid certificate 

- Enhanced DBS certificate

Essential requirements

- Previous experience of working with younger people aged between 11 and 17 (This may be in a voluntary or non-teaching capacity)

- C1 Level of English

- Excellent communication and organisational skills

- Eligible to live and work in the UK

Desirable requirements

- PGCE 

- QTS

- Between 1 and 2 years experience teaching within the UK or abroad

- Previous experience of working in a summer school

Salary and Benefits

£540-£570 per week (depending on experience) plus full board and accommodation and weekly CPD INSET. 

Paid Induction 

Paid Safeguarding and Prevent training

Holiday entitlement will be prorated and paid at the end of the contract.

Use of the sports facilities including gym and pool

*We operate a loyalty scheme for returning teachers.

Summary

-Teachers will provide students aged 11-17 with English language lessons every weekday morning.

-Max. class size: 15. In addition, this residential role will include playing an active part in the social programme.
