Celtic English Academy, established in 2004, is a friendly and welcoming British Council and IALC accredited English Language Teaching (ELT) centre in the heart of Cardiff. We take pride in our small class sizes, great teachers and wonderful support staff.

We offer a range of beginner to advanced level English language courses for international students including, but not limited to; General English, IELTS Exam Preparation, Cambridge Exam Preparation, Teacher Development Courses, One-to-One lessons for adult students, and bespoke packaged programmes for both adult and young learners.

Each year approximately 1300 adult and young learner students study with us from up to 50 different nationalities. For young learners we also offer a Junior Summer Programme in Monmouth (Wales). We teach 150 - 350 students at any one time and our students are accommodated in local homestays or
private student residence accommodation.

We strive to foster a friendly, motivating and student-focused environment where we can offer a great service to all that study with us. We work as a team to support our students to meet their goals; whether they are learning English to go to university, for their career or to simply communicate more easily in our globalised world – we teach English today, so they can start their tomorrow.

Summer Activity Leaders

Based in Monmouth

Contract: 4 - 6 Weeks 

Purpose: Junior Summer Residential Programme 

Wage: £600 per week 

Key dates: In-person induction: Friday 5th July and Saturday 6th July. 

First Aid training and online induction dates TBD

Working hours: 6 days and 1.5 day off

Celtic English Academy, established in 2004, is a friendly and welcoming British Council accredited English language school in the centre of Cardiff. We take pride in our small class sizes, great teachers and wonderful support staff. For the past 20 years we have been offering a range of classes to both adults and younger learners. 

Due to the success of our 2023 Junior Summer Programme in Monmouth, we will be running the programme once again in 2024. Situated in the charming border market town of Monmouth within the historical county of Monmouthshire, the Haberdashers Monmouth School is hosting our 2024 Junior Summer Programme. 

The main role of a Summer Social Activity Leader is to engage with the students and make sure that the students engage with all aspects of the programme - classes, activities and excursions. This means communicating, interacting, and generally being alongside the students in making sure that they are happy, involved, and having fun. Most importantly, ensuring that safeguarding and welfare practices are upheld at all times.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Welcoming new students to the centre
  • Setting up / packing up the centre and displaying / removing signs
  • Supervising during breaks and lunchtimes
  • Preparing and taking part in afternoon and evening activities and half and full day excursions (this includes activities such as arts and crafts, walking, and leading trips to London and more)
  • Assisting with fire drills
  • Understanding the risk assessments provided by the Centre Manager
  • Providing welfare support for all students, ensuring all safeguarding guidelines are upheld and reporting potentially harmful situations
  • Encourage students to speak English at all times



The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Friendly, outgoing and open
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational and time-keeping skills 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and act as a leader
  • Self-motivated, reliable and able to use initiative 
  • Adaptable to change with effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure

The following skills and/or qualifications are desirable:

  • Previous activity/group leader experience
  • Sports, arts, music, drama or other recreational skills
  • Experience or strong interest in working with international students
  • Experience or strong interest in working with children or teenagers
  • First Aid qualified or any similar relevant qualifications
  • A standard B1 Driving Licence. Anything higher (e.g D1) is a plus.
