The Strategic Policy Team delivers policy support on a wide range of system-wide issues including, health inequalities, funding, integration, transformation, workforce, urgent care, social care, quality, local growth and technology alongside support for media work and assistance with developing content for the Confederations annual conference.

The team is also driving the NHS Confederations new strategic priority of healthcare improvement.

Main duties of the job

The role sits in the NHS Confederations Strategy Policy Team who deliver the organisations policy and influencing activities, including producing briefings and thought leadership to highlight and advocate for change in key national policy issues facing members.

The team also delivers distinct projects that support NHS organisations to build and share insight or best practice and deliver improvement or change locally.

This role will specifically support the development and delivery of this growing portfolio of funded partnership projects, in close collaboration with the Commercial Team.

The NHS Confederation is the membership body for the NHS, which brings together and speaks on behalf of all parts of the health system. Our membership spans the full range of organisations that provide and commission services, including acute, community, mental health and ambulance service trusts; clinical commissioning groups; primary care networks; and integrated care systems. We work across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and have a European Office.

The NHS Confederation is also contracted by the Department of Health and Social Care to provide the NHS Employers service, which acts on behalf of employers within the NHS provider sector in England. This places us in a strong position to influence workforce policy development and implementation.

Job responsibilities

As a Policy and Project Officer you will:

Support translating NHS policy, leadership and improvement priorities into funded projects Develop high quality deliverables on specific challenges in healthcare that matter to NHS Confederation members Build relationships with commercial partners, supporting the project management of funded projects and deliverables The Strategy Policy Team deliver the organisations policy and influencing activities, including producing briefings and thought leadership to highlight and advocate for change in key national policy issues facing members.

This role will specifically support the development and delivery of this growing portfolio of funded partnership projects, in close collaboration with the Commercial Team.

You will be passionate about UK healthcare policy andsupporting the NHS. You are a great communicator and can build effectivenetworks.

Experience

Essential

Understanding of the UK political environment and the operation of government. Excellent organisational skills, working to tight timescales, and taking a proactive approach to work, often using your judgement to arrive at the best approach. Experience of project management and excellent relationship building and influencing skills, working with senior stakeholders to build effective formal and informal networks. Track record of supporting scoping and delivering projects or programmes of work for commercial partners. Demonstrable experience of research and intelligence gathering to inform commercial decision making. Ability to write accessible and compelling policy narratives and develop high quality deliverables. Ability to be responsive and agile in a rapidly changing environment.

Desirable

Experience of working in a matrix-style organisation and across departments. Record of working collaboratively with partner organisations to deliver joint work and achieve shared goals. Experience working with or in a membership or network environment and an ability to produce work closely informed by member priorities and needs.
