Main duties of the job

The Assistant Finance Manager will provide accurate and timely financial reporting, forecasting, and planning. To meet regularly with budget holders to provide advice on all aspects of financial control.

The post holder will be required to organise personal workloads to meet all relevant financial timetables in the delivery of the financial reporting/management remit as set by the Senior Finance Manager.

The post holder is required to work a significant proportion of their time (more than 80%) using computer applications. The computer applications used include the software packages Excel, Word, Oracle, Business Intelligence, Qlikview and our Trust payroll system ESR.

Communication with budget holders, other Finance staff and external customers may be by face-to-face meetings, by meetings on Microsoft Teams, by email, by telephone or by letter as appropriate.

  • ‘A’ levels or equivalent
  • Completed AAT Technician stage or have equivalent experience in management accounting issues to include budgetary control and costing techniques.
Desirable criteria
  • Studying towards a CCAB qualification
ExperienceEssential criteria
  • Significant experience in all aspects of financial reporting, planning and control.
  • Significant experience of working to tight reporting deadlines.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in an NHS financial environment
  • Experience of supervising junior staff
SkillsEssential criteria
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and large Ledger systems.
  • Ability to apply accounting knowledge and demonstrate analytical skills.

  • Experience of using bespoke IT systems e.g. dashboard software such as Qlikview
