Job summary

Applications are invited for a Consultant post in Neonatal PaNDR (Paediatric and Neonatal Decision support and Retrieval Service) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH). This is a replacement post.

PaNDR incorporates both the Neonatal Retrieval Service and the Paediatric Retrieval Service for the whole of the East of England. PaNDR completes over 1200 neonatal transfers per year with over 600 emergency transfers and receives referrals from the 17 hospitals across the East of England and beyond. We are one of the busiest teams in the UK.

The Neonatal service offers the full range of Neonatal intensive care facilities including neonatal surgery, Neonatal Neurosurgery and Neonatal neurocritical care. There are approximately 6000 deliveries per year, many of these are 'high risk deliveries' referred to the tertiary fetal medicine service in the Rosie Hospital. The neonatal unit has 40 cots, 26 intensive and high dependency care and 12 special care cots.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will provide Consultant clinical service, clinical leadership, specialist advice and multidisciplinary management for the Neonatal Retrieval Service and also for the neonatal unit.

You will be fully registered with the GMC or be within six months of award of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors' professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a friendly and enthusiastic team including clinicians, highly experienced Retrieval Nurses, Specialty Retrieval Registrars and fellows, dedicated ambulance technicians and the Emergency Bed Finding Service (EBS).

PaNDR is a consultant-led service with consultant involvement in all aspects of service delivery.

The Neonatal Unit in Cambridge is one of three tertiary level units in the East of England Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. We have close links with the rest of the network including two other tertiary units. We also have close links with CUH Perinatal services ,and the University Department of Paediatrics.

CUH, together with Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Foundation Trust and Cambridge University are well on the way in developments to build a new Cambridge Childrens Hospital. Work is underway with the building expected to open in 2028.
