Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Renal Medicine and General Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

From a General Medicine perspective, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the care of General Medicine inpatients, oversee the care of a ward of medically fit patients and assist with the medical post take. They may also contribute to the care of patients on the newly opened general medical ward. They will be on the out of hour's Medical Consultant rota.

From a renal perspective, the successful candidate will be responsible for the running of the Renal Tubular and Genetics Disorder Service (including the Tolvaptan Service), which encompasses a wide variety of rare inherited and tubular disorders as well as the 'Stone Clinic' for patients with recurrent renal stone disease, where there is likely to be an underlying metabolic condition. They will also contribute to the renal ward cover and on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and training in a leading national hospital.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

The applicant is required to have sub-specialty experience in the management of patients with renal genetic and tubular disorders.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors' professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

About us

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
