Clinical Lead Nurse

Caerleon, United Kingdom Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Full time

Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team as a Band 6 Clinical Lead/Charge Nurse. The postholder will have the ability to respond effectively to arising mental and physical health needs, provide sound clinical practice and guidance to junior staff, be adaptable, and capable of delivering a high standard of care.

The role involves a 12 hour shifts over a 7 day period. Flexible working options are available to be discussed.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity for a charge nurse has arisen within the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), at St Cadocs Hospital.

Beechwood ward is a 9-bedded mixed gender Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The PICU offers a Health Board wide service and therefore accepts referrals for patients within the catchment area of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. It is a locked ward, although the structured physical environment is designed to facilitate therapeutic management that is assessed and based on specialist intensive interventions and not containment. It is an integral part of the Health Board's mental health patient pathway.

The Unit provides intensive, short term, individualised care for those patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act and who are in an acutely disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder, resulting in increased risks that seriously compromise their physical or psychological well-being, or that of others and require them to be assessed or treated in a supported environment for a brief period of time.

The post holder is a key member of the in-patient multi-disciplinary team, working within a recovery-focused service. There is a need to demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, with strong leadership skills. The post holder will also deputise for the Ward Manager of the PICU Unit.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
