Job summary
We are excited to be advertising this lead role in our Child and Adolescent Learning Disabilities Service (CALDS). The CALDS team takes a multi-disciplinary approach to thinking holistically about the needs of children with a learning disability and their systems of support who are presenting with distress. The lead psychologist takes a key role in modelling and implementing psychological approaches to support through direct work with families, joint work, training and consultation. The postholder will also hold a strategic vision around reducing restrictive practices and liaison with other services to ensure a 'no wrong door' approach to support for young people. The role sits alongside a psychology and assistant psychology post within the CALDS team and senior psychology posts in our Early Years and Intensive Support services for children with additional needs. The post is also part of the Gwent Child and Family Psychology service, which is a large and vibrant team with many opportunities for learning and sharing good practice. The postholder will have a passion for working with children with learning disabilities and their families and carers and an enthusiasm for working towards cultural change in systems of support.
