Cambridge, United Kingdom Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

A brand new opportunity has arisen for a skilled Therapist to join our dynamic, supportive and friendly Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Services at Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH), working within our Acute Paediatric and Neonatal Team.

The Acute Paediatric and Neonatal SLT Service reaches across the hospital and works with many areas of specialism including ENT, Gastroenterology, Intensive Care, Neonatology, Neurology, Respiratory and Surgery.

We are a well-established team that has developed excellent working relationships across the hospital and has had stable staffing for several years. We encourage open discussion within a psychologically safe environment to support a culture of speaking up, sharing ideas, asking questions and shared problem solving.

It is a particularly exciting time to join the team as we are beginning to plan for our move into the Cambridge Children's Hospital. This will be the first specialist children's hospital for the East of England and will integrate mental and physical healthcare, alongside world-leading research.

With the support of your Team Lead and Advanced Specialist colleagues and as an integral member of the MDT, you will contribute to the multidisciplinary management of patients, taking a holistic approach to care.

Main duties of the job

To assess and differentially diagnose a defined caseload of children and young people across a range of specialisms ( Surgery, ENT, Respiratory, Neurology, Cardiology, Neonatology, Oncology and Haematology) using a range of techniques, including detailed case history taking and formal / informal assessment. These patients may present with feeding / swallowing and communication disorders as a result of both developmental and acquired conditions, in Acute and Outpatient settings.

To formulate and implement management plans, directed by assessment results and appropriate selection of clinical interventions based on best practice, including the assessment and provision of communication aids, where appropriate.

To work closely with patients, carers and families, to negotiate goals and ensure implementation of intervention programmes through demonstration of techniques and activities.
