This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference to women and families across Cheshire & Merseyside. The main responsibilities will be to support the development of and, ensure the systematic provision of a high quality specialist Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS) across community settings. The post holder will advise and support the development of the clinical service model and integrated care pathway of the new MMHS service working collaboratively with lead maternity and psychology colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the MMHS Lead Psychologist, the MMHS Lead Midwife will support the development of the Trauma Informed Care service delivery model and embed it within midwifery practice.

The MMHS Lead Midwife will advise, supervise and support the assessment and interventions provided by members of the team who provide maternity based care and treatment within the MMHS. They will work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of maternity practice within the service/team. They will provide maternity leadership for policy, service development and research They will also develop and implement policy and procedures collaboratively within the area served by the service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered midwife Minimum of three years post registration experience Educated to degree level or equivalent experience Proven commitment to CPD, research and academic study

Desirable criteria

PMA or willing to undertake course

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

Essential criteria

Proven ability to ensure effective clinician relationships Clear understanding of national recommendations in maternity care and maternal mental health Excellent organisational skills and time management skills Experience of developing teams and others Information technology skills / experience Strong professional knowledge base Risk management and quality assurance experience Clinical audit and service evaluation Evidence of successful leadership in previous senior roles Evidence of successful management of change Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal Proven effective open and participative leadership style Commitment to and adherence to the NHS code of conduct for senior staff/ managers Clear commitment to partnership working and modernisation of services

Desirable criteria

Ability and experience of strategic working in an Acute Trust Experience of multi-agency working Undertaken primary research, either as an individual or as part of a collaborative study Conference presentation and/or published articles / research Experience working across systems
