The post is designed to offer research training for individuals planning a career as a subspecialist in Urogynaecology. As such the post will provide the training needed to meet the research component of subspecialty training as per RCOG curriculum.

The Urogynaecology Department at LWH is one of the first to be accredited by the British Society of Urogynaecologists (BSUG). We have an established subspecialty training programme in Urogynaecology. We run weekly MDT meetings, submit our surgical data to the BSUG database, and have close links with our colleagues in colorectal and urology at both the Royal Liverpool and Aintree University Hospitals.

The services are organised on two sites. The Crown St site is a purpose built unit, situated three quarters of a mile from the main acute local provider, the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen

The Unit is the principal teaching hospital for Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Mersey Deanery. It undertakes over 8,000 deliveries per year. It is a major obstetric and neo-natal tertiary referral Unit. There is a very active Feto-Maternal Centre which offers a wide range of services, including multiple pregnancy clinic, joint surgical and neonatal clinics, Diabetic and medical disorders clinics. The Gynaecological Department is very well supplied with specialist clinics in Coloscopy, Oncology, Infertility, Uro-gynaecology, Recurrent Miscarriage and mínimal access surgery. There is also an active Assisted Conception Unit offering ICSI, IUI and IVF. We have strong links to the university and provide clinical and formal teaching to 3rd, 4thand 5thyear medical students from the University of Liverpool. Applicants would be encouraged to become involved with teaching and mentorship.

The urogynaecology research fellow will join a team of urogynaecology surgeons, specialist nurses and our urogynaecology-link midwife. The department has a long history in urogynaecology research, particularly focused on obstetric anal sphincter injury. We run a weekly perineal clinic for the follow up of all women sustaining obstetric anal sphincter injury which includes performing anorectal testing; both endoanal ultrasound and anorectal manometry. There will be opportunities for the post holder to obtain skills in performing and interpreting these tests.

The department runs on obstetric anal sphincter injury repair. The post holder will be expected to help in the organisation and delivery of training of these training days which occur twice per year.
