Job summary

The post holder will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse who will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable. They will work across the South Kent Coast MHT+ locality - this includes Shepway, Dover and Deal. The post holder will support their peers and team leaders and be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative. They will supervise Band 5 Nurses and pre-registered students and hold a practice assessor/practice facilitator qualification. They will have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals and agencies.

The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job

1. Have a working knowledge of current appropriate legislations.

2. Be aware of and adhere to Trust procedures.

3. Contribute to setting own objectives through the Appraisal process, work towards achieving these in keeping with the Trust's business objectives.

4. Engage in regular clinical and professional supervision. 1-2-1 and reflective practice.

5. Adhere to and work within the guidelines of the NMC professional code of conduct.

6. Maintain registration of care profession and membership relevant to professional area; duties in relation to the relevant professional qualification will be required eg: the administration of medicines as stated within agreed policies and procedures.

7. Act as a positive clinical role model for colleagues.

8. Ensure that full regard is taken of the dignity, individuality and well-being of service users and carers.

9. Participate in depot and clozapine clinics.

10. To undertake phlebotomy procedures.

11. Be accountable for own practice and take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence.

12. Advocate and promote self-advocacy for service users/carers.

Experience

Minimum of 2 years post registration experience.

Experience of working within the NHS.

Knowledge and Skills

An awareness and knowledge base of severe and enduring mental health problems and the impact of these on physical health and wellbeing.

Working in collaboration with other agencies.

An understanding of Mental health legislation and frameworks.

Excellent knowledge of risk assessment and management of clients who present with SMI within MHT+. Mental health legislation and frameworks including NICE guidelines.

Good IT Skills

Good keyboard skills

Ability to prioritise key tasks and target intervention

Excellent verbal and written communication

Negotiating and motivational skills Problem solving/conflict resolution/mentoring and solution focussed knowledge and experience.
