What it's like to work here

This Assistant Ranger post is based here on the Cliveden Estate which comprises of grade 1 listed gardens surrounding the Cliveden house hotel as well as the ancient bluebell woodlands, chalk grassland, two miles of river Thames frontage and the historic Round Garden fruit orchard. The role will be heavily involved with the practical management of the wider estate and woodlands for the benefit of wildlife and visitor access. We are supported by a variety of fantastic volunteer groups and the Assistant Ranger will be key to manage the teams on practical tasks.

The Cliveden estate is on of the National trust's flagship sites welcoming over 500,000 visitors a year to enjoy the gardens and woodlands with breath-taking views across the Berkshire countryside. The successful candidate will have great opportunities to work closely with all the departments onsite to keep Cliveden at its peak.

In addition, the ranger team also look after the Maidenhead and Cookham commons almost 900 acres of open countryside for local people to enjoy & nature and wildlife to thrive. The Assistant Ranger post would also help look after this special area.

What you'll be doing

As Assistant Ranger, you’ll undertake different task in countryside management. This will include nature conservation working to make habitats better for wildlife, site inspections, routine practical maintenance, monitoring of wildlife habitats, supporting volunteers, and helping to deliver activities that strengthen people’s connections with the outdoors.As no two days are the same, the nature of the role means a flexible approach is crucial to ensure the right level of support is given across the site. Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you are: able to demonstrate practical experience in land, conservation and access management to level 2 or have 6 months vocational experience willing to work outside in all weathers and deliver tasks when the weather conditions aren’t ideal comfortable working in a flexible and adaptable way able to work alone or under direction, and as part of a team positive with an approachable attitude happy and willing to learn new things enjoy the work you do and happy to share this with others
