Working Environment

As a member of a dedicated team, you will report directly to the Lead Ranger for the Cliveden Portfolio, overseeing one staff member and several volunteers. Your focus will be on the management of Maidenhead and Cookham Commons, where you will play a crucial role in planning and executing practical habitat conservation and access management initiatives, ensuring our sites are always at their finest. With the assistance of volunteers, we care for a variety of habitats, including broadleaf woodlands, species-rich chalk grasslands, and SSSI grazing marshes, making your work diverse and fulfilling.

Key Responsibilities

In your role as the Regional Conservation Officer, you will lead a small team of Rangers across the portfolio. Following the directives of the property’s business strategy, you will develop and manage an effective and adaptable work schedule for yourself and your team.

You will assist your fellow rangers in conducting engagement and conservation activities, contributing to HLS (Higher Level Stewardship) objectives. Your primary responsibility will be to uphold exceptional standards of presentation and property upkeep, successfully meeting Conservation Performance Indicator targets. Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants, and neighboring land managers will be essential.

Additionally, you will be tasked with effectively communicating our conservation efforts to a wide audience, both new and existing, through events, guided walks, and community engagement. Understanding the necessity for our countryside sites to generate income, your innovative business ideas will be crucial to the team's overall success.

Candidate Profile

We invite applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:
• Proven experience in land, access, and conservation management, ideally in an upland context, including the execution of small projects and supervision of contractors
• Experience in developing and implementing work programs to achieve conservation and access goals
• A collaborative team player, with experience in leading and managing teams of staff and/or volunteers
• Practical skills across a diverse range of habitats and estate management, preferably with certifications in chainsaw operation, tractor driving, and trailer towing
• Ability to work safely, taking the lead on compliance, including writing risk assessments and adhering to safety and environmental protocols
• A demonstrated enthusiasm for nature and the outdoors, capable of engaging with visitors to help them appreciate the significance of our work
• A valid UK driving license
