Applications are invited for the above posts to commence on a rolling basis from 2025 for 6 months in the first instance, renewable.

The posts are intended to provide critical care experience in an acute adult critical care unit providing both HDU and ITU level care, to anaesthetic and non-anaesthetic trainees who will have the opportunity to participate in educational activities, training, audit and research within the department of Critical Care Medicine. You would join a team that includes over 40 trainees and 19 Consultants.

The Royal London Hospital (RLH) forms part of Barts and The London NHS Trust. The ACCU (Adult Critical Care Unit ) is a 44 bedded critical care unit in the brand new hospital into which the Royal London moved in December 2011. The ACCU accepts referrals for medical and surgical patients requiring level 2 and 3 care. The hospital receives tertiary referrals for a number of Medical Specialties including Neurology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Renal and Stroke Medicine, as well as surgical specialties such as hepatobiliary surgery, upper and lower GI tract surgery, major vascular, maxillofacial and ENT surgery.

The RLH is the base hospital for the London’s Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) and the NE London Stroke Referral Unit. The Accident & Emergency Department caters for over 100,000 patients every year.

Main duties of the job

Our busy and exciting 56 bed Adult Critical Care unit is looking for enthusiastic clinical fellows to join our team looking after a broad range of patients with multiple medical problems, severe trauma and head injuries and others who are admitted following major complex elective surgery.

Please only apply if you will have full GMC registration at the time of commencing the job and note that these are not MTI posts .

For those applicants requiring top-up of anaesthetic competencies (e.g. CT3/4), we would consider allocating some labour ward and theatre time. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

There are 4 types of post available:

Generic Critical Care Fellow - Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience, at least 1 year of which should have been working clinically within the NHS.

Specialist Critical Care Fellow – Trauma - for applicants with a minimum of 2 years Anaesthesia experience, this is a specialist training post that would include specific clinical and non-clinical time to develop a sub specialist interest in Critical Care Trauma.

Specialist Critical Care Fellow – Follow up clinic - for applicants with a minimum of 2 years Anaesthesia experience, this is a specialist training post that would include specific clinical and non-clinical time to develop a sub specialist interest in Critical Care Follow up

General Critical Care Fellow – CESR - for applicants with extensive Critical Care experience who are interested in achieving CESR accreditation for Critical Care, and have already achieved their anaesthetic competencies, there will be 2 posts which include 1 year of General, Trauma and Neuro critical care, 3 months of Cardiac critical care and 3 months Paediatric ITU, to help achieve sign off in 11 of the 14 HiLo’s required for CESR accreditation and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
