This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to develop specialist Paediatric Diabetes Dietetic skills. We would consider applicants who are currently working as Band 5 or 6 or undergraduates soon to qualify. If offered this post as a development post we would expect the candidate to work towards completion of the required Band 5 competencies within a 12 month period.

We are a small but dynamic team of Dietitians, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy. The team is based in the community across both Scunthorpe and Grimsby sites.

You will provide specialised Paediatric Diabetic Dietetic assessment & management of children aged 0-19 years within community and inpatient arena. There will also be an opportunity to develop the relevant generalist competencies required, which will be fully supported through training if you have not completed this previously. You will be part of the wider Diabetes MDT, contributing to service development, evaluation & development of pathways and will have a key role in delivery of Education and training to both parents/carer’s/young people & to other professionals. You will work alongside our current diabetes trained dietitian & will also have access to supervision from the Diabetes Team our partner Trust, Hull University Teaching Hospital (HUTH) & the ability to access the Yorkshire and Humber Diabetes Network for ongoing support.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for providing a specialist assessment, management & interventions for children & young people with a Diabetes across a range of settings To work within inpatient, outpatient & community settings, homes & schoolsTo be responsible for providing a high quality specialist service to children & young people with more complex Dietetic presentations (Diabetes). To provide specialist advice & supportTo provide training/ Education as appropriate for parents/carer’s/ Young People & other professionals (including Education settings)To take an active part within the Diabetes MDT & regular attendance at MDT clinicsTo assist the Operational Lead & Team leads in planning & developing the service. To provide second opinions where appropriate to junior colleagues. To contribute to information & data collection for reporting for commissioners & to monitor information relevant to own area of the serviceIt would be expected that the Job Holder would complete B6 competencies & training within the first 12 months of the post starting if do not have suitable prior diabetes experienceTo manage a defined caseload of more complex patients using advanced evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement & evaluate interventions, including dischargeTo provide day to day support as well a responsibility for line management of junior Band 5 & non registered staff, as delegated by your supervisorTo supervise students on practice placement as appropriate

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

•Degree/Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics•HCPC Registration

Desirable criteria

•Membership of BDA•Membership of BDA Paediatric Specialist Group•Post graduate study in appropriate clinical areas e.g. MSc modules in paediatrics•Relevant accredited courses related to clinical areas in adult or paediatric dietetics•Wide range of CPD activities, esp. related to specialist area•Insulin pump training•Paediatric Diabetes training

Clinical

Essential criteria

•Post Graduate clinical experience of working with a broad range of patients across a variety of settings at post graduate level (minimum of 12 months experience)•Clinical experience as Autonomous practitioner for management of less complex clinical paediatric clinical pathways e.g. CMA and weight management•Experience of working with at least one complex paediatric pathway e.g. enteral tube feeding with senior supervision and support•Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team

•Post registration experience within diabetes

•Experience of leading a project at least at undergraduate level

•Experience of leading on a project at post graduate level•Experience of deputising for senior team members in a clinical or non-clinical capacity•Experience of supervising/ mentoring junior staff, dietetic assistants and students.
