Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultantin Ophthalmology with a special interest in vitreo retinal (VR) surgery and medical Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post-holder will be expected to provide a range of Ophthalmology Services. This will include attending the Ophthalmology clinical governance and business meetings. They will be expected to share permanent on call arrangements with VR Consultant colleagues on a 1:3 basis. This cover includes telephone advice and on site examination and / or surgery for emergency cases requiring this highly specialised surgery.

Main duties of the job

This post covers all aspects of a Consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities.

o The post-holder will be part of a team of 16 Ophthalmology Consultants

o The post-holder will be expected to provide a range of Ophthalmology Services but specialise in Vitreo-retinal and Medical Retina

o The post-holder will attend the Ophthalmology clinical governance and business meetings.

o A commitment to the Trust's clinical governance and risk strategy is mandatory.

Any other duties necessary for the successful performance of the role, commensurate with the grade.

The post-holder is managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of the Clinical Business Unit and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer at BTHFT.

Qualifications

Essential

MBChB or equivalent. MRCP or FRCS or equivalent to speciality - (UK) or equivalent. CCT or within 6 months of AAC date. On Specialist Register with GMC and continue to hold a licence to practise.
