The Role

We are looking for an excellent and enthusiastic researcher to undertake research on conceptual modelling for discrete-event simulation. Working with Professor Stewart Robinson, the project will focus on how modellers create different conceptualisations of the same problem. Candidates must possess a PhD in a relevant discipline and have experience of working with discrete-event simulation.

This is a fixed-term post, tenable for 2 years. Part-time working arrangements will be considered.

Key Accountabilities

Performing literature-based research on conceptual modelling for discrete-event simulation Developing a methodology for testing hypotheses around the conceptualisation of models, likely to include experimental methods involving modellers Employing the methodology and analysing the results Presenting the findings at conferences Writing journal articles Writing bids for funding to support the project and to extend the work Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post, as requested by the project lead


The Person 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge of the theory and practice of discrete-event simulation Excellent skills in literature search, methodology development and implementation, and analysing results Excellent organisational skills Experience of presenting research findings at conferences Experience of successfully writing journal papers Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral presentations Excellent IT, web and software skills that will support the project Ability to work independently, accurately and with initiative to set priorities

Desirable

Experience of working on conceptual modelling for simulation Experience of performing experiments with human participants Success in applying for and obtaining external funding

Qualifications

Possess a PhD degree in a discipline related to operational research and computer simulation
