Job summary

Based at the nurses' station, in the clinical area, you will work alongside clinical staff and patients to provide a comprehensive and efficient operational and clerical service to the A&E Co-ordinator and emergency care team, ensuring all work is prioritised according to the demands of the department. This entails aiding inclusive of communication, target and performance adherence, quality data capture and assisting in positive flow-through. The Flow Coordinator will contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the department. The post holder will work under the supervision of the A&E co-ordinator/Shift Leader and management from the Administration Manger for the Acute Floor.

Main duties of the job

To constantly maintain an accurate record on hospital patient systems including entering admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths. To investigate and correct any discrepancies found on Symphony relating to patient information. To ensure the Trust's overseas patient advisor is informed of any overseas patient admission. To obtain medical records for every patient episode. To track the movement of medical records passing through the area and to ensure that notes are transferred with the patient or forwarded to Clinical Coding on discharge. To maintain notes correctly including merging temporary sets, filing correspondence, results, x-rays, etc to enable continuity of care. To ensure that patients do not have duplicated notes and ID numbers and to rectify when necessary. To ensure the Data Protection Act is complied with through correct usage.

Job description

Job responsibilities

As an A&E Flow Coordinator you will be responsible for the overall movement of patients through the ED in a safe and efficient manner. The position will coordinate all patient care activities and be a liaison to the A&E medical and nursing staff to ensure that care will be delivered in a safe and efficient manner with in the 4 hour standard. The A&E Flow Coordinator is responsible for having a helicopter view of the status of the entire department, however may be assigned to particular area, including being a role model for teamwork, leadership and professionalism with A&E.

Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to work well with others within different roles within the Emergency Department are key to this position, as is strong administrative experience and the drive to improve patient care.

Essential

Office administration and clerical experience Computer literacy. Good standard of literacy and numerical skills. Knowledge of a range of computer software programmes. Ability to work unsupervised. Good written and spoken English and interpersonal skills Able to be assertive and remain calm under high levels of pressure. Knowledge of the Acute floor

Desirable

Experience of working in NHS environment Experience of working within emergency care Counselling skills. Specialist knowledge of department specific policies and processes Good working knowledge of medical terminology, diagnoses and pharmacological products
