Where you fit in

At Shell Energy, we believe there’s a better way to power your business.

Aligned with Shell’s ambition to be a significant global power business and to become net zero by 2050, we are here to guide businesses to a better energy future.  One that has the customer and a commitment to cleaner energy at the heart and makes it easy and affordable to embrace new technology.

We offer businesses across Britain 100% renewable electricity as standard. Our cleaner, affordable and simple solutions help companies manage their energy spend and plan their sustainability roadmap - a fresh approach for environmentally conscious businesses that are looking to boost their sustainability credentials. We also offer natural gas to our customers with the option of supplying green gas on request.

What’s the role?

Reporting into the Forecasting and Structuring Manager, the role requires a dedicated, engaging, and articulate individual that has a strong numerical, interpersonal and commercial skillset that can organise and manage competing priorities in a pressured environment.

You will be responsible for managing a team of 3 analysts, developing and growing the team, to work with senior leaders across pricing, commercial and trading to influence hedging strategies. You are required to implement new demand forecasting technologies and to drive change in other parts of the organisation to ensure your team have the tools, data and insights to delivery best in class demand forecasting performance.

More specific responsibilities include:
  • Manage a team of 4 analysts, ensuring that they are generating both short- & long-term forecasts for both electricity and gas in-line with agreed standards.
  • Continually look for opportunities to improve the demand forecasting performance, either from improving the quality of input data, the computations and algorithms used within the demand forecasting models or the checks and balances performed to avoid errors or mistakes with the outputs.
  • Collaborate with Structuring on contractual volume risk optimisation to ensure we are competitive while remaining cost reflective.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the Technology and Data & Insight function, recommend and implement a new demand forecasting system, de-risking legacy in—house processes whilst ensuring requirements are fit for our future customer growth and product set.
  • Support the team, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities, workloads are managed and individuals are developing their skills

What we need from you

We are keen to speak from individuals with extensive experience in a demand forecasting or similar role working for an energy company with exposure in directly managing or leading a team. You must also have a strong understanding of the retail energy market, industry and business datasets vital for generating accurate forecasts.

We also hope you possess the following skills and/or experience:

  • Excellent modelling skills, data extraction, manipulation and computational, using programme languages (SQL, Python, Visual Basic, R etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience of improving demand forecasting performance
  • Familiar with best practice methodologies for both short and long term forecasts
  • Experience in building demand forecasting models from scratch and comfortable working with existing code to resolve issues
  • Practical and hands on self-starter, able to take the initiative to get the job done
  • Strong communicator, able to distil complex issues, make clear recommendations to aid decision making
  • Strong academic record preferred

If you don't see yourself fully reflected in every job requirement listed on the posting above, we still encourage you to reach out and apply. Research has shown that not everyone often applies when they don’t feel 100% qualified. We are committed to creating a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse company and we strongly encourage applicants of all genders, ages, ethnicities, cultures, abilities, sexual orientation, and life experiences to apply. We look forward to receiving your application.
