Subspeciality trainee in Gynaecological Oncology

Liverpool, United Kingdom Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

This post is available for senior medical trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology and provides formal nationally recognised sub speciality training in gynaecological oncology. The successful applicant will work with the gynaecological oncology consultants and other clinical and non-clinical staff to deliver excellent patient care whilst training in advanced surgical techniques and the holistic management of patients with gynaecological cancer.

Main duties of the job

Currently the trainee's timetable typically includes 3 all day theatre sessions, a combined clinic, a colonoscopy clinic, the MDT meeting and dedicated research sessions. All clinics are Consultant-led and the trainee will have supervision during outpatient sessions. All main theatre lists are Consultant-led and no completely unsupervised lists occur although the trainee will learn to operate independently.

In LWH the Wednesday combined oncology clinic and preceding MDT meeting are staffed by consultants in gynaecological oncology, clinical oncology, medical oncology, and palliative medicine, supported by the specialist/palliative care nursing team. The core clinical specialties of gynaecological oncology, colposcopy, clinical oncology, medical oncology and palliative are therefore closely integrated at a daily clinical level. Continuous clinical training in all these areas will supplement the training modules. The ample opportunities for exposure to challenging gynaecological oncology surgery will be supplemented by attendance at an anastamosis course.
