Role Overview:
As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will be working with students who require additional support in their academic and personal development. This role is ideal for recent psychology graduates who are considering a career in education, educational psychology, or any field where understanding behaviour and learning is key. You will work closely with the school's SEN department and pastoral team, providing targeted support to students with diverse needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing one-to-one or small group support to students with special educational needs (SEN), social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, or behavioural challenges
- Supporting classroom teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and ensuring that students of all abilities can access the curriculum
- Assisting in the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) for students who require additional support
- Monitoring student progress and reporting back to teachers, helping to develop intervention strategies
- Supporting students in developing coping mechanisms, resilience, and positive behaviour in the classroom and around school
- Providing additional assistance with academic subjects where necessary, particularly in areas such as mental health and emotional well-being
- Working with students who may require help managing anxiety, emotional regulation, or social skills, providing them with practical strategies to improve their classroom experience
- Contributing to a supportive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring every student feels valued and able to reach their potential
- Collaborating with staff, parents, and external professionals to provide a holistic support system for students
- Supporting the pastoral team with well-being initiatives and promoting a positive school culture
Candidate Requirements:
- A degree in Psychology or a related field is essential
- A strong interest in supporting young people, particularly those with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students and staff
- Experience working with young people in a school or support setting is desirable but not essential
- A proactive, empathetic approach to student support, with the ability to adapt to the varying needs of different learners
- An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of promoting student welfare
