Job summary

Requiredto fill two posts within the Radiology Department at the Leeds GeneralInfirmary/Chapel Allerton Hospital.

Thesuccessful applicants should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should beincluded on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time ofinterview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.

Applicants should haveestablished skills in MSK Radiologyand its related subspecialties. A strongcommitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interestis desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

There is an expectation for out of hourswork (programmed weekend work).

Main duties of the job

Theposts are for 2x specialist Consultant Radiologists in MusculoskeletalRadiology. The applicants will undertake all aspects of diagnostic andinterventional MSK Radiology including MRI, CT, ultrasound, fluoroscopy andplain radiographic reporting. The responsibilities include specialist MSK MDTcover. There is an expectation to be adept in the reporting of complex MSKimaging, including spinal trauma and sarcoma imaging. The successful applicantwill join a team of 8 expert MSK Radiologists.

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

The post holders skills in MSKradiology will complement and support the current demand on the service to deliver care to patients with MSK radiology needs at the LeedsTeaching Hospitals NHS Trust including

Care of patients throughspecialist diagnostic and interventional procedures

Contribute to specialist multi-disciplinaryteam meetings

Supervision of traineemedical staff

Collaboratewith Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Radiology CSU andacross the Trust.

Contributeto research, teaching and new developments within the department. Thepost holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the currentclinical research programs ongoing in the department.

Contribute to formal specialist trainee teaching withinthe Yorkshire Radiology Academy.

Contribute to the clinicalsupervision and training of specialist trainees and clinical fellows in MSK andinterventional radiology.

There will be arequirement to attend and lead multi-disciplinary meetings, contribute to auditand assist non-medical staff in their roles in the department

Person Specification

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit

Essential

Should have completed a recognised training programme in Clinical Radiology. Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research. Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

Desirable

Fellowship training in MSK. Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff. Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.

Qualifications

Essential

FRCR or equivalent qualification. Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice. YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO BE CONSIDERED. Eligibility to work in the UK. Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

Relevant higher degree.

Experience

Essential

Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in diagnostic and interventional MSK radiology. Specifically, must demonstrate higher specialist training in MSK radiology, including specialist reporting (spinal and sarcoma) and intervention (both simple and complex including spine). Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Desirable

Experience of complex MSK intervention (vertebroplasty, ablation techniques).

Management, Interpersonal Skills & Other Criteria

Essential

Understanding of current issues in the NHS. *Well organised and skilled in good time management. *Effective interpersonal skills. *Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team. *Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice. *Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process
