The Urgent Primary Care Services Team are looking to recruit salaried GPs to provide out of hours Urgent Primary Care Services to Swansea Bay UHB residents and visitors, and to participate as a key member of the Urgent Primary Care Out of Hours (UPC OOHS) team in providing access, support and advice for all UPC OOHS presentations within the unscheduled model of care. Successful candidates need to be registered on the GP Performers list for Wales. 

Main hours of work will be during the out of hours period, i.e. evenings, overnights and weekends providing Urgent Primary Care out of hours.

There are multiple posts of 4 x 3 hour slots per week (Inc. CPD time) available to be appointed to.

Main duties of the job

Undertaking triage of telephone calls at base, treatment centre face to face appointments and home visits and any administration associated with patient care. 

The post holder will be expected to develop and support the dissemination of best practice which would include the delivery of staff training for other disciplines within the service.

The post holder will assist the Lead Clinician in ensuring Clinical Governance is fully embedded in the work of the team.

To provide high quality an UPC OOHs service in the Swansea Bay UHB, working with multidisciplinary team members.

To respond to medical problems presented by patients, by means of history taking, examination, investigation where appropriate, diagnosis, treatment and referral as needed.

To be part of a team that delivers care as appropriate and when necessary to community hospitals.

Attending appropriate meetings when required commensurate with the development of the service through use of protected admin time.

To contribute when appropriate to the provision of support, education and training of current and future members of the Out of Hours team which will include assistance in the development of the Advanced Practice model.

To monitor and advise on adequate drug stock levels wherever they are stocked in line with the Out of Hours Formulary in conjunction with the Prescribing and Pharmaceutical Advisor in the Local Health Board.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people.
