George Mackenzie House is a low secure unit providing development opportunity in the Recovery focused care of male and female adults experiencing difficulties associated with a range of acute often long-standing mental health illnesses.
The MDT assess and review all aspects of patient care seeking to use a holistic, collaborative approach in the preparation of individual care-plans where each patient is central to this process. We believe in truly collaborative care, support and positive risk taking. Working on GMH will give the post holder the opportunity to practice a full range of core mental health care skills, physical health skills and to gain experience in risk assessment, management and recovery focused interventions.
Main duties of the jobTo provide support, care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting. Undertake tasks under the general supervision of a nurse, including assisting in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. The post holder will be trained to ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.
To be involved in the delivery and coordination of ward activities. To work a -hour shift pattern, utilizing electronic Healthroster system to make request for shift leave and training requirements.
The job includes listening and talking to patients/relatives/carers, observing patients’ behaviour, providing close observation to ensure patient safety (one to one), encouraging them with eating, drinking, personal hygiene.
The post holder will involve them in diversional activities, escorting patients out of the unit where leave permits, dealing with anger (explanations, negotiation, and de-escalation), assisting in the management of violent episodes, Reporting and documenting observation.
To support nursing staff with the completion of physical health monitoring and encouraging, supporting patients to achieve their optimum health.
To work with the team to undertake duties to ensure the unit remains a secure, safe place to be.
