Job summary

To work with the multi-disciplinary teams, Oncology Consultants, and site specific Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide a seamless service for patients with cancer, their relatives and carers.

To provide a high standard of care to patients who attend the chemotherapy unit for treatment and other supportive therapies.

To ensure that cytotoxic drugs, blood transfusions and other treatments are administered in a safe manner in a nurse-led setting. It is expected that the post holder will be responsible for their own decisions regarding care, with the support of senior nurses.

To ensure patients and their carers receive ongoing support throughout their treatment.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists, the multi-disciplinary teams, Consultant Oncologists, and other appropriate professionals involved in the patient's care pathway

Main duties of the job

An exciting training opportunity has become available in our Chemotherapy Unit. We are looking for an experienced nurse to join our Chemotherapy Unit Team. There will need to be a willingness to undertake a recognised chemotherapy course; full support will be given to achieve this.

Main duties:

To provide a high standard of care to patients who attend the chemotherapy unit for treatment and other supportive therapies.

To work with the multi-disciplinary teams, Oncology Consultants, and site specific Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide a seamless service for patients with cancer, their relatives and carers.

To ensure that cytotoxic drugs, blood transfusions and other treatments are administered in a safe manner in a nurse-led setting. It is expected that the post holder will be responsible for their own decisions regarding care, with the support of senior nurses.

You will need to be able to demonstrate key skills as an experienced nurse as well as extensive knowledge and expert experience in delivering chemotherapy treatments. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, supportive care experience and the ability to work autonomously, whist ensuring patients and their family's needs are met.

Desired characteristics:

Effective communication and organisational skills, you should also be educated to degree level or working towards this. You need to be able to show evidence of your ability to work in a stressful environment.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse ENB N59 or equivalent or willing to work towards. Post-graduation study in relevant area.

Desirable

Haematology/Oncology course. MSPP course or equivalent. Degree level study. Chemotherapy Course

Experience

Essential

Post registration. Proficient in Cannulation and venepuncture Haematology experience. Leadership skills. Nursing cancer patients

Desirable

Experience in the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy Care of central venous access devices.
