Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team.

The individual would work to ensure the Trust meets National screening targets which are set, and monitored by NHS England - Key Performance Indicators. The successful applicant will provide specialised support and counselling to families, coordinate care pathways and be the direct line manager for the Newborn Hearing Screening team. They will monitor and provide regular performance reports both the the local and national teams. They will be responsible for reporting, investigating any serious incidents or near miss incidents ensuring that any necessary changes to practice or training needs are identified and rectified quickly and efficiently.

In March 2024 Maternity were rated 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission, recognising the positive progress made within the Division. February 2022, the significant progress that has been made at QEH in just three years since 2019 was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as 'Good' in all of the core services they inspected, and recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures). We have an absolute determination to continuously improve care and services for our patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for the planning, provision and evaluation of a quality antenatal and newborn screening service for our women and families.

Lead collaboratively the antenatal and newborn screening team, taking responsibility for the antenatal and newborn screening service, including line managing the Hearing Screening Team.

Ensure a sensitive, systematic approach to the management, coordination and governance of screening services.

Ensure equity for the population and, as part of the Trust wide screening team, review services and display innovative project management skills in developing new services.

Act as the clinical expert and knowledge resource to the women, their families and the multi-disciplinary professional team.

Provide leadership and expert advice on clinical practice related to antenatal and newborn screening.

Working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, the Regional Antenatal / Child Health Screening Lead and external agencies.

Be responsible for all clinical services, audit and monitoring and training and development issues relevant to National Screening Committee screening programmes.
