The ward is a 24 mixed bedded unit that provides care for patients with Gastroenterology and General Medical conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and /or implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. As the role develops he/she will be expected to continue with their personal development both by attending appropriate courses

and day to day experience working on the ward, until they are able to be the designated person able to regularly take charge of the ward/department. They will then be expected to provide an effective, professional and managerial leadership focus, in the absence of the

ward manager or deputy.

Is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust policies.

Supervises qualified and/or unqualified staff.

Teaches qualified and unqualified staff including basic and/or post basic students
