Locum Consultant Paediatrician with Respiratory

Job summary
This is a fixed term locum post to start in February 2024 for 12 months with a possibility of extension. The successful candidate will join a team of 11 existing consultants at Bedford Hospital to provide 1 in 10 attending and on call cover to general Paediatrics and Level 1 Neonatal Unit. The post would also involve regular paediatric respiratory (asthma) and allergy clinics.
The children's service is based at Riverbank Unit and includes a Children's Assessment Unit, inpatients, Ambulatory Care, a dedicated Children's OPD on site and Meadowbank level 1 Neonatal Unit. The Children's Emergency Department as part of the general Emergency Department is redeveloped to have a dedicated space with separate waiting area. The department has close working links with a number of tertiary centres including Addenbrooke's Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The Trust is part of the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Health and Care Partnership (Integrated Care System) and within this the Bedfordshire Care Alliance. Because of this, the successful candidate may be required to adapt their job plan in the future to work across more than one site within the area; this may also include delivering aspects of care in community settings which supports the Trust's vertical integration strategy.
Main duties of the job
Duties & Responsibilities
The Direct Clinical Care PA's will consist attending on the ward, Neonatal Unit and Children's Assessment unit along with 1 in 10 night on call as well as general paediatric clinics. The appointee will be expected to foster a speciality interest to complement the needs of the local childhood population, and expand the range of local speciality services.
The job plan is flexible subject to discussion with the department and candidate's experience. The successful candidate will be covering the paediatric ward and NNU as Consultant and will be doing a 1 in 10 on call rota at par with other Consultant colleagues in the department.
About us
Job Plan Contents:
The job plan will consist of 10 PA's of routine work made up of 8 DCC and 2 SPA's including educational supervision where appropriate.
Job planning will be used to reflect the needs of the department, ensuring that contracted work is appropriately remunerated. An initial job plan review will be undertaken by the Clinical Director after 3 months and annually thereafter, or if the work pattern changes. Any additional PAs contracted by the Trust will be agreed as a separate part of the job plan by mutual consent.
The consultant would participate in a 1:10 rota doing 'hot weeks' for the Paediatric Ward; the neonatal unit being covered 9-5 separately in the 10 weeks with one weekend cover during the 10 weeks including the neonatal unit. The 1in 10 on call supplement would be 3%.
