Job summary

Ready to take your career to the next level? We are looking for an experienced HCPC registered clinical or counselling psychologist interested in developing their leadership skills. This is an exciting time to join a drug and alcohol service and your chance to help us develop trauma-informed service that can provide a range of evidence-based psychological and evidence-informed psychosocial interventions to address issues across the lifespan.

The post will promote trauma informed practice within the team and wider service through consultation, case management, training, reflective practice and research. Under the supervision of a consultant clinical/counselling psychologist, you will offer a range of evidence-based psychological & psychosocial interventions relevant to address the degree of complexity experienced within this population of people.

Our national Psychology Directorate provides connection, peer support, reflective practice and CPD. Monthly clinical supervision is from the consultant clinical/counselling psychologist and you will receive specialist training on clinical issues pertinent to drug and alcohol use. Main duties of the job

Leadership

In line with the banding of the post and its service context to:

1.Exercise supervisory/professional responsibility for other psychological professions, trainee and assistant psychologists

2.Provide leadership in multi-disciplinary training and development

3.Provide leadership in service audit and development

4.Provide leadership in service evaluation and research

a psychological perspective is brought to service design and culture

Clinical & Research Skills

1. Act as an autonomous professional fully registered with the HCPC and ensure clinical supervision requirements are met

2. Promote and take part in comprehensive multidisciplinary assessments that reflect an understanding of the impact of adverse experiences on mental health and well-being

3. Provide highly specialist, evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions with due regard to issues of equality, diversity and inclusion

4. Utilise theory, literature, and research to support evidence-based and evidence-informed practice within the service

5. Undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with responsibilities of this post to provide a high quality psychological therapies and psychosocial interventions service

6. Contribute to the evaluation of psychological services within specialities using specialist knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods

Job responsibilities

Leadership

1. The post holder will provide clinical leadership and supervision within the sphere of their professional expertise.

2. To actively promote integrated health/care professional working internally and externally.

3. To facilitate the development of a positive and supportive team culture.

4. To ensure that a high quality, timely, accessible evidence-based/evidence-informed service is available for people who access our service.

5. To take an active interest in working groups within the wider service to develop and improve on service delivery, protocols, and guidelines.

6. To advise, encourage and share knowledge utilising the latest research and practice development, through literature and peer reviews.

Clinical Skills

1. To act as an autonomous professional fully registered with the HCPC.

2. To provide specialist consultation, training and clinical supervision to other qualified psychologists and trainees psychologists, counsellors and counsellors-in-training, multidisciplinary professionals and non-clinical colleagues for their provision of psychologically based interventions.

3. To promote and take part in multidisciplinary assessments that are comprehensive and reflect an understanding of the impact of adverse experiences on a persons mental health and overall well-being.

4. To provide highly specialist, evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions with due regard to issues of equality, diversity and inclusion.

5. To receive monthly clinical supervision from an HCPC registered Consultant Counselling/Clinical Psychologist, Line Management from the Services Manager, and opportunities for relevant peer support and CPD through our Psychology Directorate.

6. To utilise theory, literature, and research to support evidence-based and evidence-informed practice within the service.

Research and Development

1. To contribute to the evaluation of psychological and psychosocial services within specialities.

2. To utilise theory, evidence-based literature, and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and that of other team members.

3. To aim to use specialist knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods to initiate and support all research and audit activities that will evaluate and promote the development of programmes across the charity.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent as accredited by British Psychological Society (BPS) conferring eligibility for Chartership & full membership of Division of Clinical or Counselling Psychology). Training must have included models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, one or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist under protected title. Other related academic qualifications to Masters or Doctorate level

Desirable

Prequalification training and qualifications in research methodology staff training and / or other fields of applied psychology

Experience

Essential

Demonstrable post-qualification experience working as a clinical or counselling psychologist (at Band 8 or above) and ability to evidence completion of relevant training/preceptorship in to be able to carry out the full range of supervisory activities as appropriate to a Band 8b grade post. Doctoral knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, complex trauma, attachment, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, and two or more distinct psychological therapies. Experience of working with a wide variety of people across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing material. Post-Doctoral experience of specialist psychological assessment and intervention with children, adolescents, families, and adults. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC. Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision of Assistant Psychologists or other professionals. Knowledge of legislation in relation to people who access our services

Desirable

Experience of working in a service for alcohol and substance use. Attended a formal training programme in supervision. Further training in a trauma informed model , EMDR. Experience of the application of applied psychology in different cultural contexts.
