About the role

We invite you to consider being involved in this exciting opportunity as an MHST Wellbeing Practitioner within the MHST Improving Attendance Team (MIAT). Section 19 of the Education Act 1996 places a duty on Local Authorities to make suitable alternative education for children of compulsory school age who cannot attend school because of illness, exclusion or for any other reason and therefore the team’s key aims are to support Children and Young People and the families whereby a child/ young person cannot attend school because of health needs, including mental health. The team will play a crucial role in supporting families within Nottingham City by providing mental health support and coaching aimed at improving attendance and reducing persistent and severe absence rates.

An MHST Wellbeing Practitioner is required to use clinical skills in supporting children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, their parents/carers, families and educators in the self-management of presenting difficulties. They must use practice evidence-based skills under supervisory support of working in partnership with children, young people, their families and educators in the development of plans for the specific intervention and agreeing outcomes. We are looking for 4 x Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners with the skills required to enable children and young people in education and parents/carers to collaborate and co-produce their own agreed action plans to improve upon their attendance and academic attainment.

It is vital that a practitioner can always show evidence in a variety of forms that assessment and interventions are provided from an inclusive values base, which recognises and respects diversity.

There is a requirement to work with schools remotely and face to face in delivering low level Guided Self Help to Young People and Families. This will be across various educational settings within Nottingham City schools, remote working from home, community buildings and clients homes.

The ideal candidate will have:

Extensive experience of working with CYP and their families offering holistic (MIAT) partnership assessments focussed around challenges impacting school attendance that are primarily as a result of mental health needs or systemic environmental factors. Partake in the delivery of training to education staff and partner agencies. Work Flexibly in a range of settings that includes schools, education provisions, community hubs across Nottingham City and client’s homes.  A commitment to additional training that will inform the applicants abilities to deliver interventions in Mental Health, that consider the impact of the systems and ecology surrounding clients lives.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

You can find the job description for this post

At Nottingham City Council we believe that work is what you do, not where you do it. We offer different working arrangements, depending on the role, including hybrid working. Further information on Worker Types and what these mean in terms of how and where you work can be found on the for applicants page.
