Job summary

By working clinically as a member of the nursing team you will work in partnership with the Pre-Surgical Senior sister and Matron to provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership for Pre-surgical preparation team of qualified and non-qualified staff. This will cover both pre-assessment and the admissions area of the Surgical admissions unit. The post holder will be required to deputize in the absence of the Pre-Surgical senior Sister/Matron and ensure a positive patient experience through the delivery of high standards of patient care

Main duties of the job

To provide a safe environment for patient care. To ensure best practice with infection prevention and control. The post holder will be responsible for the motivation of the team to maintain a high standard of patient care. To ensure the highest standards of clinical care by providing strong leadership and support. Managerial Leadership Responsible for the day to day management of staff within your specialty including; co-ordination and training within own sphere of influence, recruitment and selection and conducting appraisals and PDP's. Ensure staff competence for clinical practice procedures, using trust competency framework, including appropriate underpinning knowledge and practical skill. Monitor and maximise the use of resources including managing stock levels and equipment within your sphere of responsibility. Monitor performance and manage the nursing staff in areas of responsibility, ensuring all employment records are locally maintained and current. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in line with the Data Protection Act and your professional code of conduct. Actively promote research awareness and participate in research-based projects and participate in working groups as required. Take a lead role in the evaluation of services and implement quality assurance programmes as directed by the line manager
