Job Title: Apprentice Customer Service Advisor

Team: Customer Service - Contact Centre, ‘One Stop Shop’

Hours: 37 per week

Grade: Apprenticeship rates

Under 18 hourly rates: £6.40

18-20 hourly rates: £8.60

21-22 hourly rates: £11.44

23+ hourly rates: £12.00

Contract: Apprentice Fixed Term Contract (2 years)


Role specifics:

GCSE’s (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C/grade 4 or above (or be expected to obtain these by September 2024) or must commit to achieving within the duration of the apprenticeship.

You will work towards a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship qualification and as such applicants must not already hold a Customer Service qualification or similar at level 2 or above.

Please be aware that to be eligible for apprenticeship funding you must have a valid and eligible residency status along with the right to work in the UK; to qualify you have to have been a resident in the UK for at least the last 3 years and had permission granted by the UK government to live in the UK and this cannot have been for educational purposes only.

It is a strategic priority for Bolton Council to tackle high levels of unemployment amongst young people in the Bolton borough therefore priority will be given to applications from BL postcodes.


The Role:

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic apprentice who is ready to embark on their initial working journey with Bolton Council. Our apprenticeship posts are designed to support and help you discover and enhance your unique skills and talents. Through hands on experience and personalised mentorship, you will gain the confidence and knowledge to excel in your chosen career path with us.

Don’t worry about experience; we are recruiting on passion and drive. This is an entry-level role that is ideal for a recent school or college leaver aiming to kickstart their career within Bolton Council.

Whilst working towards the successful completion of your apprenticeship programme, you will learn on the job, supporting and assisting our Customer Service, Contact Centre and ‘One Stop Shop’ teams, advising and directing customers/residents across a range of council services and functions.


This busy department provides a front line service dealing with inbound calls, emails and social media enquiries from our customers. You will be working within a fast paced Call Centre environment assisting with enquiries for Council Services including - Council Tax, Benefits, Planning, Elections, Adult Social Services, Waste and Recycling. Learning from experienced colleagues, you’ll provide accurate advice enabling customer query resolution at the first point of contact and activity promote the use and benefits of our online services.



About You

We are searching for an individual who is highly motivated with a desire to learn and develop in this apprenticeship role. The ideal candidate should be able to work effectively both within a team and independently. You will have good time management skills along with excellent communication abilities for interacting with our customers and colleagues. You will be friendly and helpful, enjoy the challenge of problem solving, remain calm under pressure and have good computer literacy skills and familiarity using of Microsoft Office.
