The scope of teams that engineering enablement work with is truly exciting, serving both the BBC Product and Technology Group. The BBC Product Group delivers audience facing product such as News, Sport, iPlayer, Sounds and Bitesize, and the BBC Technology Group covers a vast array of systems including content creation and capture, media transcoding and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for an engineer with a good breadth of technical knowledge, covering networking, system administration and broadcasting. This is a fantastic opportunity to help design, develop and demonstrate your skills working across a range of different locations and technical challenges.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the hardware and software infrastructure used by the Technology and Product department, consisting of a resilient IP network across multiple physical locations with both wireless and wired connectivity requirements, a public and private cloud infrastructure, continuous integration and network service integrations. We support the development and support requirements of the products and services teams, which form the foundation of the BBC’s interactive services and applications.

You will be part of an award winning team that is responsible for the complete lifecycle from scoping through to testing and maintaining these key services across all a range of digital platforms. Services include Wimbledon, Glastonbury, Olympics, iPlayer on TV, BBC Sounds and the BBC Red Button service.

Are you the right candidate?

Desirable Skills:

Network Engineering: 

Experience with configuring and maintaining IP Networks including Routing, Switching and Firewalls. A solid grounding in Cloud Infrastructure and configuring VPN connections to On Prem. Knowledge of IP traffic management and proxies. Knowledge of network topologies, and configuration techniques, such as VLANs.

Systems Administration: 

Experience of Red Hat, Linux or Unix systems. Working knowledge of Virtualisation including VMware and RHEL. Patch management of the systems to mitigate the potential risks involved in operating internet-connected equipment. Apply BBC information security requirements.

Adaptability: 

Ability to quickly acquire new technical skills and adopt emerging technologies to satisfy business needs. Demonstrable technical and analytical experience working across business functions (Development / Product Owners / User Experience).

Operational: 

Working experience of monitoring, maintenance, faults and reporting systems. Software development skills. Familiarity with broadcast solutions. Working knowledge of AWS. Ability to communicate complex solutions clearly and persuasively to audiences with varying technical backgrounds on a 1 to 1 or group basis. Knowledge of datacentre infrastructure installations including power, environmental and space layout considerations.
