Job summary

As part of the Provide multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive paediatric Occupational Therapy Service for children, from birth to nineteen years of age, who present with developmental concerns.

To work with children and their families in their homes, nurseries, schools and any other appropriate setting as well as within the children's centre.

To contribute to and assist physiotherapists in the organisation, planning and development of the Occupational therapy service to this care group.

To own a car and hold a full clean driving licence and appropriate insurance

Main duties of the job

To competently implement specific Occupational Therapy treatment plans using knowledge and experience with or without qualified therapist present. This will include the treatment of children in a manner that respects privacy, dignity and individuality. This may include manually handling a child who may have complex tonal issues, painful joints or unpredictable behaviour. To communicate with children who have limited or no functional speech and may use assistive technology devices or signing in order to augment their communication. Reports back progress of treatment to therapists, identifying change or difficulties and need for reassessment. Recognises limitations of their practice and is able to seek assistance from the supervising therapist appropriately. Within the scope of their skills and knowledge to contribute to the planning ofindividual and group activities, reporting to the chartered therapists for re-direction and advice as necessary. To regularly lead therapy groups and blocks of treatment, which have been planned by a therapist. To prepare rooms and equipment for individual and group therapy or multi-disciplinary therapy sessions. To have a working knowledge of the specialist equipment and to be able to demonstrate correct usage to parents and school staff as necessary. To assist the therapists in the correct fit and adjustment of equipment, to monitor this and report back to the therapist any need for further adjustment or change of equipment.

To submit data on a regular basis to the productivity monitoring project To assist the therapist with photocopying, scanning patient information and clinical records, information gathering and general paperwork that arise from patient contact. To accept responsibility for a designated caseload of children and to organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and the use of time. To work in any appropriate setting in line with service requirements. To actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings (MDT) asappropriate. To provide hands on treatment and demonstrate well-developed therapeutic handling of patients to facilitate movement and the development of physical skills. This includes close working with child and may involve contact with body fluids, head lice etc To take photographs and videos of children and equipment to recordtreatment and correct use of equipment. To have basic knowledge and understanding of childrens services andprocesses as provided in the special school. To assist in the assessment for the provision of specialist aids and equipment, arranging the appointments for demonstration of specific equipment, communicating the details of these to all the appropriate people therapists, parents, carers. To carry out internet searches and telephone enquiries as directed by the therapist. To answer the telephone and take messages for members of the MDT. To use knowledge of moving and handling methods appropriately to ensure the safety of patients, to demonstrate best practice to educate classroom staff and parents. To work with children who may have life limiting conditions and liaise in an appropriate manner with staff and parents regarding this.Clinical Governance To comply with the Health and Safety policies of the Trust including assist Person Specification
