In line with the school's dedication to academic rigor and personalised learning experiences, we are currently seeking a highly motivated Head of English to join the faculty on a full-time, permanent basis, commencing this September. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the English department towards further heights of achievement and innovation.

As the Head of English, you will spearhead the review, design, and implementation of an ambitious and meticulously sequenced knowledge-rich curriculum tailored to meet the diverse needs of students. Drawing upon your exceptional subject expertise and pedagogical acumen, you will ensure that teaching staff are equipped with the necessary tools and strategies to cultivate deep subject knowledge and facilitate seamless integration of concepts into broader intellectual frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, design, and implement an ambitious, well-sequenced, and knowledge-rich English curriculum to cater to the needs of all students.
  • Foster a culture of academic excellence by empowering teachers with strong subject knowledge and effective instructional practices.
  • Develop innovative teaching methodologies to enhance students' long-term retention of content and foster connections between disparate concepts.
  • Establish an effective assessment framework to support students in embedding and applying knowledge fluently, while also informing ongoing teaching practices.
  • Cultivate a nurturing learning environment where students acquire detailed knowledge and essential skills across the English curriculum, thereby facilitating robust academic outcomes for all.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status, with a minimum of degree-level qualification in English or equivalent post-degree conversion course.
  • Demonstrated track record or evidence of potential to facilitate high standards of learning and achievement among students.
  • Consistent track record of delivering outstanding teaching, as evidenced by student outcomes.
  • Profound knowledge and understanding of strategies to enhance teaching and learning practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Outstanding organisational skills, coupled with the ability to thrive under pressure and adeptly manage competing priorities.
  • High level of self-awareness, with the capacity to recognise strengths and weaknesses, and adeptly navigate diverse personality dynamics.
