Job summary

This is a new opportunity for a senior CAT Supervisor and Trainer to join our specialist Cognitive Analytic Therapy service in Newcastle. The main focus of the role will be Course Director for the Newcastle CAT Practitioner Training. The service is a successful bidder to provide training places for the new NHS England funded CAT Practitioner Training with a specific focus on CAT for people with complex emotional needs. Accordingly, the service will be undertaking a further expansion in training places from September 2024 and this newly created post, part time at band 8C, will support the service to do so. The expansion is part of the Trust's Community Transformation programme for people with severe mental health problems. The CNTW CAT Service is one of the very few services in the UK focussed entirely on Cognitive Analytic Therapy.

Our service is based in the Trust's Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies (CSPT), alongside the Newcastle Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies Centre, the Regional Department of Psychotherapy, and the Family Therapy and EMDR services. Our serviceprovides CAT therapy to people with complex psychological needs; hosts the Newcastle CAT Practitioner, Introductory and Supervisor Trainings;provides CAT supervision to practitioner trainees, practitioners and others; provides CAT scaffolding services ( 5 Session CAT and other forms of CAT consultation)and undertakes service evaluation and research.

Main duties of the job

The key elements of the role will be:

Course director for the Newcastle CAT Practitioner training, including day to day running of the course.

Part of the leadership team for the CAT service within CSPT.

Leading the Practitioner training: including co-ordination of training days, course administration, organisation of supervision and marking, and supporting trainees through ACAT accreditation.

A clinical role providing specialist CAT clinical interventions with adult service users with complex mental health needs.

Delivery of accredited CAT supervision, and consultation.

Assisting with CAT supervisor training, being a senior supervisor for those undertaking CAT supervisor training.Contributing in a leadership role to service evaluation and development

The post holder will work closely alongside Director of CAT Training (responsible for strategic development of the course, liaison with NHS England), to whom they will be responsible for the Course Director element of the role. They will also work closely with ACAT Training Committee and the Course Moderator in assuring the quality of the training programme.

The post holder will have experience in delivering CAT training at practitioner level, preferably having undertaken multiple training roles training, marking, supervising and planning practitioner level training. They will have substantial experience of CAT work with those with complex emotional problems - both directly, and in supervising such work.
