SEN Teaching Assistant (Rochdale)

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting Secondary School students with special educational needs (SEN) to ensure they have access to a high-quality education and can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN.
  • Assisting the class teacher in creating and delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Supporting students in developing social skills, independence, and confidence.
  • Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and monitoring progress.
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each student's development.
  • Promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and classroom teachers to plan and implement effective support strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation of learning materials and resources.
  • Support students with a range of needs, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and any issues that arise.
  • Help with personal care and mobility support if required.
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of SEN and the challenges faced by students with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, are desirable but not essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
