CLINICAL SUPPORT MANAGER- 1 post – 1 x C&M

*Previous applicants need not apply*

As part of the new frontline leadership structure, we are excited to be advertising the post of Clinical Support Manager. This role is a vital part of the area leadership team, answering to the Area Consultant Paramedic, and providing professional and clinical leadership to the Advanced Paramedic Practitioner teams. They will provide welfare support, provide clinical supervision, and undertake people management functions for the two area-based teams of Advanced Paramedic Practitioners (14 staff). They will also undertake clinical time in the Advanced Paramedic Practitioner role, allowing them to maintain their clinical competence and undertake appraisals and clinical supervision for the Advanced Paramedic Practitioners.

The role will also have a key responsibility in delivering on area wider clinical workstreams. They will support the Area Consultant Paramedic with area wide clinical issues and management, especially the coordination of area risk management, the yearly flu campaign, and managing the performance elements of clinical and quality auditing, etc. The Clinical Support Manager may deputise for the Area Consultant Paramedic when they are not available and will have an area wide appreciation of clinical service delivery. They will play a key coordinating role in the development of an area wide clinical and quality improvement plans and linking area priorities with other directorates and business areas.

Main duties of the job

This role is pivotal to the success of the new frontline leadership model, and we are looking for individuals with a proven track record of people management, experience of working as an advanced practitioner, and the ability to manage competing demands on a day-to-day basis and deliver on longer term project work. This role will work closely with the Area Consultant Paramedic, and the Area Director, and will be an opportunity for someone who has worked at sector level to step up into a post that provides exposure to area wide working as part of their career development. It is essential for this role that the successful candidate has demonstrable experience of working at an advanced practice level, and has a postgraduate academic qualification in advanced practice, or is working towards one.

The Clinical Support Manager will primarily be expected to work Monday to Friday. These roles would not normally attract any unsocial hours, although where there is a need for working unsocial hours (such as to support public holiday working, or in extremis) it would be paid as per Agenda for Change terms and conditions. They will also be entitled to claim unsocial hours for any supervision/mentorship shifts they work alongside their teams during the out of hours period, although this is not expected to be a significant amount of time.
