Main duties and responsibilities

The role of a Professional Lead/Programme Lead – Speech and Language Therapy is to lead and manage a programme(s) of study. As a member of academic staff within the School/Department, the Professional Lead/Programme Lead – Speech and Language Therapy will be responsible and accountable to their Head of Department and Dean of School for all duties including the day-to-day management of the programme. You will participate in teaching, assessment and module management on the new Speech and Language Therapy Degree Apprenticeship programme. Skills and experience required You will have substantial proven practical experience of relevance to Speech and Language Therapy as well as experience of successful partnership working with a range of internal and external stakeholders including learners. An understanding of the higher education sector and its political, national and international context as well as an understanding of the industry/sector/professional context relevant to Speech and Language Therapy are essential for this role. In addition to this, you should have good oral and written communication skills as well as an ability to work without close supervision and to lead and work effectively as part of a team. In this role, you will need to be adaptable to change and be flexible with team and workload requirements. Qualifications required For this role, you must hold a degree or relevant pre-registration qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (SLT), as well as a Master’s degree (or equivalent level 7 qualification) in a relevant subject. You must have a fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and be registered as a Speech and Language Therapist with the HCPC. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Our commitment to the University’s Safeguarding Policy, requires that the recruitment of staff in this area, will need to undertake the minimum of a Basic DBS Check. In the course of our work and University-led activities, there may be external or other contractual obligations where a further Enhanced Check is required. DBS Checks may require renewal in line with policy. Overseas applicants and UK applicants who have lived abroad Successful applicants who have lived outside the UK, for 12 months or more (whether continuously or in total), in the last 10 years, will be required to produce a ‘Certificate of Good Character/Conduct’ from each of those countries.
