Job overview

The purpose of the role is to provide high quality occupational therapy to the patients with a wide range of neurological conditions, including those with complex impairments.

The post holder would work within an MDT that is supportive and dedicated to patient care. The post holder would work closely alongside a number of other disciplines within the team, and also with specialist nurses, medics, and others who are external to the immediate team.

The Community Neuro-Rehab Service (CNRS) is divided into 2 MDTs - the north team based in Aylesbury, and the south team based at Amersham Hospital. The post-holder will be an important member of the the south team.

Main duties of the job

To take a lead role in planning, coordinating and delivering occupational therapy to Community Neuro-Rehab clients as part of the interdisciplinary team.

To provide highly specialist occupational therapy to a wide range of clients with complex physical and cognitive deficits resulting from neurological impairment.

To take a lead role, as required, in the overall organisation and functioning of the community neuro-rehab service.

To provide clinical supervision to band 6 occupational therapists and a therapy assistant.

To act as a clinical educator of occupational therapy students

Professional qualifications and membership

Essential criteria

Relevant degree level qualification in Occupational Therapy or equivalent HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist

Desirable criteria

Member of Specialist Section - Neurological Practice (SSNP)

Professional experience

Essential criteria

Significant clinical expertise in neuro-rehabilitation (normally at least 5 years clinical experience of which 4 years within neuro-rehab) Senior level multi-disciplinary working Experience of assessment and treatment of neurological clients with long standing complex disabilities Experience of supervising junior staff (including occupational therapists and occupational therapy students) Experience of managing a complex caseload

Desirable criteria

Previous work experience at band 7 level within the NHS Standard keyboard skills

Experience of neurological splinting
