An opportunity has arisen for a Sister/Charge Nurse on Hopkins Ward to enhance management and leadership skills.

Hopkins ward is comprised of 21 inpatient beds, and a Urology Rapid Assessment Clinic (URAC) providing a variety of elective and emergency care.

We are looking for enthusiastic highly motivated individual with excellent communication, leadership and team building skills to join our friendly and dynamic team in providing the best possible care for our patients.

Informal visits to the department are welcome.

Main duties of the job

The post offers further educational developments in areas such as leadership and team management.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate ward management skills and experience in supporting junior staff/students.

Support will be provided by the Lead Nurse and Matron regarding roster planning, financial control/budgeting as well as dealing with complaints and communicating with the multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient experience.

Applicants will be expected to drive/support change projects within the ward with the focus being on patient safety and quality of care.

Job responsibilities

Applicants will be expected to:

Manage people and financial resources to ensure the effective operation of the team for which he/she is responsible. Ensure effective skill-mix and appropriate caseload management at all times. Promote/develop and maintain a culture within clinical environment which challenges and questions practice, and promotes the quality of thinking amongst practitioners. Ensure that students and staff receive effective induction, mentorship, development and support. Contribute to the implementation of the development of the service. Be aware of new evidence and research in both general and specialist fields. Support staff in the analysis of evidence. Work creatively to develop practice and new ways of working, taking the lead in the change management process when appropriate. Monitor and maintain the health, safety and security of self and others in work area. Identify and assess risks in work activities, and develop strategies to manage these effectively. Ensure team works within risk management/Occupational Health legislation and Trust procedures.
